In the shadow of the legendary Matterhorn (4,478 m.) and among about 40 peaks reaching 4,000 meters, Zermatt is an experience that you will hardly find anywhere else in the world. That is why for the last 2 years it has been voted the best ski resort in world.
And not without reason! With a system of slopes that reaches 365 kilometers, the highest lift in the world and a charming village, Zermatt is truly the best mountain destination we have ever visited!

The village
From almost all sides of the village, your eye can gaze upon the mountain, the "myth" of alpinism, the Matterhorn (Matterhorn). You have surely seen it on the wrapper of the famous Swiss chocolate Toblerone. The mountain stands proud like a pyramid on the border of Italy and Switzerland and is undoubtedly one of the brand names of the country. It is considered the most photographed mountain in the world!

On top of everything else, the village is car-free. The only vehicles that circulate are electric vans, bicycles and horse-drawn carriages! The whole atmosphere creates a feeling of unprecedented calm and serenity.
How will you get there?
The best way is by train from Zurich. The route is beautiful and believe me, you have never had a similar experience to the one offered by the Swiss Railways! Quality, punctuality, landscapes and amenities that you don't easily find elsewhere.

When to go?
Zermatt is beautiful all year round. If you're interested in skiing, the best time is undoubtedly mid-January to mid-March (although due to the glacier, skiing is possible 365 days a year). You'll find deals on accommodation after the Lights and until January 15th and in the spring.
What will you see in the village?
– The Matterhorn Museum. In this crystal-clear state-of-the-art museum you will find information about the first climbers who conquered the Matterhorn in 1865 as well as about tourism in the area since the early 19th century.th century.

– The old village. A walk there is worth it as the old wooden houses where the residents once lived are still preserved.
– Walk alongside the Vispa River. The route is beautiful and you will come across a series of bridges that are worth stopping and enjoying the view.
– Many hiking trails start from Zermatt. Go to the official website for information.
– Do it spa in one of the luxury hotels. The Parkhotel Beau Site and the Eden Hotel are very good choices. The best is of course the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof! You may need to book by phone.
– The church of St. Maurice, built in this form in 1913, on the ruins of the previous one that existed since the 16th century.the century.

Travel prepared
While packing my gear for the slopes of Zermatt, I realized that the true luxury of an Alpine getaway is the peace of mind that allows you to enjoy every moment without a worry in the world. Personally, for my trips involving mountain activities, I rely on SafetyWing and Nomad InsuranceWhat really won me over is its incredible flexibility; it works like a subscription that you can start even if you’ve already arrived at your mountain chalet.

It’s incredibly reassuring to know I have 24/7 coverage for medical emergencies, as well as for mishaps like lost equipment or weather-related flight delays. Regarding skiing specifically, I love that their basic plan covers amateur sports activities with no hidden fees. Plus, if you’re traveling with family, the free coverage for children under 10 is a massive perk. If you’re planning your next getaway, definitely check out their plans here as it’s one of the most affordable and reliable solutions I’ve come across in recent years.

Skiing and snow games
Even if you're not a skier, there are so many things to do in Zermatt that you're sure to never get bored. Book your lift pass online to achieve the best possible price!
– When you go up to Matterhorn (that's where the highest lift in the world is at 3883m.) you should definitely go to Glacier Palace located 15 meters below the glacier. Ice sculptures, crevasses in the glacier and an ice rink create a fairy tale atmosphere. Returning to the village on skis you will encounter the Hennu Stall where after noon the fun kicks in! Stop for mulled wine and après ski. Tip: The Klein Matterhorn should be your first choice when you arrive because it may not always operate due to weather.
– Don't forget to ski down to the Italian side to the Cervinia and Valtournence.
– If you catch a full moon while you're there, various events are held events to the mountain with transfer to Gornergrat by train and ski to the torchlight village.
– Returning to the village from the Rothorn peak you will encounter the Champagne Bar which has various parties and the hotel DeerStop for a coffee or drink on the balcony and enjoy the magnificent view of the Matterhorn and Zermatt.
– A stop for coffee or a cocktail on the lounge deck is also essential Adler Hitta on the Fideln slope.
– At the top of Gornergrat you go up by train! The only ski resort in the world that offers you this possibility. There is the hotel “3100 Kulmhotel Gornergrat” with a unique view, restaurants and an observatory! Nearby is the Igloo Village. Don’t miss it, it’s a unique little village with bars, spas, hotels in…igloos!
Heli-skiing
If your level allows it and you feel comfortable skiing and snowboarding off-piste, here you can live a unique experience! Heli-skiing involves off-piste skiing, only instead of a lift, a...helicopter takes you to the top. The Air Zermatt are the masters of the genre, while those who do not wish to ski can book a package for a walk around the Matterhorn or in the wider valley of the Canton of Valais.

Residence
There are many accommodations for all budgets, but you won't find them on booking or any other site. They are all concentrated in website Zermatt. Since this is an expensive destination, we recommend that you book accommodation in a place that has a basic kitchen so you can cook something easy. You will remember me when you see the prices in the restaurants!
